How will 5G revolutionise the events industry?

The 5G revolution is fast approaching and inevitably this will have an impact on the events industry. We wanted to look into how 5G could affect the events industry and what we can do to prepare.

So, let’s start at the beginning, what is 5G?

Simply put, it is the next generation of wireless internet and voice services to eventually replace previous generations such as 3G and 4G.

Many, many devices currently being used are 4G, however, mobile data traffic is set to increase fourfold by 2021 and 5G will be able to transport much more data more quickly without delay.

What does this mean for the events industry?

Well for starters, it means that the dreaded ‘frozen screen’ during virtual meetings or events will be a thing of the past. 5G will be all about speed, loading websites and online services much faster.

It will also mean that the Wi-Fi services at large event venues will be much faster, allowing more people to access fast Wi-Fi. You are also more likely to see the use of virtual reality (VR) and live streaming at events and exhibitions because of improved internet speed and access.

With the venues providing this 5G internet access for free, event budgets will be looking more healthy as Wi-Fi access at some venues can be extremely expensive. Providing 5G at event venues will assist exhibitors in improving the collection of data from delegates providing more insights into the attendees. This will in turn increase profits simply as a result of time being saved behind the scenes on a daily basis.

The introduction of 5G to the events industry is still a while away, however this provides all event managers with the perfect opportunity to start planning for the future. We will be researching new technology and beginning to understand the updates in technology that will be available at events to ensure our staff is trained to use this.

The future

5G is definitley going to change the events industry as we know it, especially with the increased demand for live-streaming, global online events, better quality video, and AR and VR content. The new technology will enable our clients to communicate with wider audiences and share more content faster, increasing the interaction with their brands.

Pinnacle Event Staff are looking forward to seeing how the events industry will adopt 5G and will be excited to work with the new technology once it is released. Please get in touch to find out how we can support your event.
