(And What They Mean for Staffing)
London has always been one of the world’s great conference cities, and 2026 is shaping up to be a standout year. ExCeL London is hosting a record number of major international congresses, Olympia is unveiling a brand-new International Convention Centre and the capital’s established venues continue to raise the bar.
Choosing your venue is one of the biggest decisions you will make. What is often overlooked is how much that choice shapes the team you need on the day. A multi-floor venue in Westminster needs a very different staffing plan to a riverside ballroom or a vast exhibition centre in the Royal Docks.
We have staffed events at many of London’s leading venues, so here is our pick of the best conference venues in London 2026, along with what each one means for staffing.
1. ExCeL London
Located in the Royal Docks with its own Elizabeth line station at Custom House, ExCeL is London’s largest event venue. Its 25,000 square metre expansion has made it, by the venue’s own account, the largest fully integrated conference and exhibition centre in Europe, and it has a record number of major international congresses confirmed for 2026.
What it means for staffing: scale and distance. Delegates can arrive through several entrances and walk a long way between halls, so you will need well-sized registration teams, directional staff at key junctions and session scanning teams for conference rooms. Zoned supervisors with radios keep everything connected.
2. Olympia London
Olympia’s £1.3 billion redevelopment is one of the most talked-about projects in the industry. At its heart is a new International Convention Centre with its own entrance and registration areas on Hammersmith Road, designed to connect to Olympia’s historic exhibition halls. Two new on-site hotels, a Hyatt Regency and a citizenM, add to the appeal for multi-day events.
What it means for staffing: new spaces mean even regular visitors won’t know their way around. Confident directional staff, clear registration and a familiarisation walk-through for your supervisors before the event will make a real difference.
3. QEII Centre
Right in the heart of Westminster, opposite Westminster Abbey, the QEII Centre is central London’s largest dedicated conference venue. It offers 29 event spaces across seven floors for up to 2,500 people, including a plenary room for up to 1,300, and is a long-standing favourite for association and medical congresses.
What it means for staffing: the challenge here is vertical. With delegates moving between floors, you need directional staff on each level, efficient lift and stair flow at changeover times and accurate session scanning, particularly for events that track attendance for CPD.
4. Business Design Centre
Set in a Grade II listed former Victorian agricultural hall in Islington, a short walk from Angel, the Business Design Centre combines character with flexibility. It offers around 6,000 square metres of exhibition space and conference facilities for up to 1,500 delegates.
What it means for staffing: it is ideal for events that blend a conference with an exhibition, so you will often need registration, stand hosts and data capture teams working side by side. Mezzanine levels mean directional staff help keep visitors moving between floors.
5. The Kia Oval
For something with a sporting backdrop, the Kia Oval in Kennington is hard to beat. Its 175 Suite, the largest single space at the ground, holds up to 700 theatre style or 900 for a reception, with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the pitch. Additional suites and executive boxes give plenty of flexibility.
What it means for staffing: events here often lean towards corporate hospitality, so polished hospitality hosts are key. With spaces spread across different stands, directional staff from the entrance onwards help guests find their way quickly.
6. JW Marriott Grosvenor House
On Park Lane in Mayfair, Grosvenor House is home to the Great Room, one of Europe’s largest hotel ballrooms. It can host up to 2,000 guests for a banquet or 1,500 theatre style, and it has been a fixture of London’s awards and gala dinner scene for decades.
What it means for staffing: this is a venue where first impressions really count. Think VIP greeting, smooth cloakroom flow, table hosts for seating plans and hospitality staff who can work seamlessly alongside the hotel’s own banqueting team.
7. InterContinental London The O2
On the Greenwich Peninsula, a short walk from North Greenwich station, the InterContinental London The O2 combines a large hotel with a purpose-built conference centre. Its pillar-free Arora Ballroom covers around 3,000 square metres, holds more than 3,000 guests for a reception and can be split into two separate ballrooms.
What it means for staffing: it works brilliantly for residential conferences, where delegates stay on site. Registration at scale in the foyer is essential, and when the ballroom is split for two events, clear signage and directional staff stop delegates ending up in the wrong room.
8. Old Billingsgate
Overlooking the Thames between London Bridge and Tower Bridge, this Grade II listed former fish market is one of London’s most striking event spaces. The Grand Hall holds up to 1,200 for a conference or dinner and 2,500 for a standing reception.
What it means for staffing: Old Billingsgate is a dry-hire venue, so you bring in more of your own suppliers. That usually means a bigger role for logistics specialists during build and breakdown, alongside hosts, cloakroom staff and data capture teams for product launches and awards.
Beyond London
London may be the heart of the UK conference scene, but it isn’t the only option. We also regularly staff events at the NEC in Birmingham, Manchester Central, ICC Wales, Ascot Racecourse and Exeter Arena, plus venues across Europe, so the same standards travel with you wherever your event takes place.
Bringing it all together
The best conference venues in London for 2026 each bring something different, from sheer scale at ExCeL to heritage glamour at Grosvenor House. Whichever you choose, the layout, the audience and the type of event should shape your staffing plan from the start.
